Biographical Information

I. Ripon Britton, Jr. practices primarily in the area of probate proceedings, guardianships, conservatorships, elder law planning, real property litigation, commercial litigation, and municipal and local government representation.

Conservatorship & Probate: Mr. Britton has a wide probate practice including conservatorships, guardianships, and estate administration. In addition to his representative work, he also serves as Conservator, Guardian, Trustee, Special Needs Trustee or Payee appointed by the Probate Court, the Circuit Court, Social Security Administration, or private clients. In this role, he is responsible for marshaling assets, litigating real and personal property ownership issues, managing estate funds, overseeing nursing home placement, Medicaid eligibility, and overseeing payment of the beneficiaries’ day to day needs and expenses. He is involved in all areas of administration of simple and complex estates. He also counsels with family members regarding elder care planning, estate planning, and Medicaid eligibility.

Special Needs Trust: Mr. Britton is also privileged to serve as the trustee for numerous individuals who have special needs and to administer their Special Needs Trusts and to counsel with them and their families.

Litigation: Mr. Britton has extensive litigation experience representing clients in real estate litigation, commercial, property and insurance disputes, business tort cases, insurance fraud, bad faith cases, and insurance agent representation. 

Municipal & Local Government: Mr. Britton also has a broad municipal and local government practice. He is the former prosecutor for Hoover, Alabama, and Tarrant, Alabama. He previously served as Assistant County Attorney for Jefferson County, Alabama.

Mr. Britton was born and raised in Birmingham. He attended Auburn University where he received his degree in Industrial Management and was elected President of the Student Government Association. He attended Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham where he was an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy, and a member of the Moot Court Board and the Trial Board.
