Biographical Information
Steven Kerr has retired from the firm.
After receiving a degree in Physics from the University of Alabama, Steve Kerr worked for a leading defense contractor as a research scientist in the field of infrared and ultraviolet optical systems. Mr. Kerr then attended law school at the University of Alabama School of Law and received his JD degree. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Kerr passed the U.S. Patent Bar exam and became a registered patent attorney. He began his career as a patent attorney in Atlanta, Georgia in 1986. After 34 years in private practice, Mr. Kerr retired from full-time law practice at one of the largest law firms in the country, where he was a partner for over 20 years. He holds an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Kerr served as President of the Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of Georgia, as managing partner of a boutique patent law firm in Atlanta, as Team Leader of the Mechanical Patent Team at his large law firm, and as president of the Vinings Rotary Club in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the United States Patent Bar, and is admitted to several State and Federal Courts.
Mr. Kerr’s experience includes preparation and prosecution of hundreds of U.S. patents and of patents in other countries throughout the world. He has been a member of patent litigation teams in several patent infringement cases across the U.S. and one case in Europe. He also has experience in trademark registration and enforcement and in matters involving copyrights and trade secrets.
