Congratulations Roger Bates

On December 10, 2019, Roger Bates was appointed as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) during its annual meeting in Houston, Texas.

SACSCOC is the accrediting commission for institutions of higher education in 11 states, including Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. SACSCOC is responsible for ensuring accredited colleges and universities meet the standards for quality and integrity specified in the body’s Principles of Accreditation. Mr. Bates will be one of eight trustees to represent Alabama on the 77-member SACSCOC Board. The Board of Trustees guides the organization’s work and implements the accreditation process.

His unanimous nomination came through the joint support of Alabama’s Community Colleges and the members of the state delegation representing Alabama’s Universities, including Dr. G. David Johnson, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of South Alabama. Dr. Johnson serves as a member of the SACSCOC Executive Council and is Chair of the Alabama SACSCOC Delegation.
