Riis Elected to a Sixth Term on the Executive Committee for Hand Arendall Harrison Sale

Hand Arendall Harrison Sale LLC proudly announces the election of J. Burruss (Buzzy) Riis to his sixth consecutive term on the executive committee. Also currently serving as the Managing Lawyer for the Mobile office, Riis has been an integral part of the firm’s success since joining in 1991.

Riis, a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, holds a Bachelor of Art degree, cum laude, from Washington & Lee University in 1982, and a Juris Doctor degree in 1985 from the University of Alabama School of Law. With more than 37 years of experience, Riis is a prominent figure in the legal community, with significant experience in general civil litigation with a focus on personal injury, trucking defense, and construction defense litigation.

Throughout his career, Riis has demonstrated his commitment to excellence, having successfully tried more than 50 jury trials. His experience extends to OSHA disputes, where he has represented contractors, healthcare providers, shipyards, stevedores, and manufacturing facilities in contesting citations from the Occupational Safety & Health Commission.

Riis is an active member of various professional organizations, including the Mobile Bar Association, the Alabama Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (Executive Council), and TIDA. He was inducted into the Paul Brock Inn of Court in 1999, showcasing his dedication to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in the legal field.

Beyond his professional achievements, Riis has been actively involved in the pro bono lawyer program in the City of Mobile. His commitment to community service was recognized in 2003 when he received the Ben Kilborn Volunteer Lawyer of the Year award.
