Waggoner and Morgan Appear Before U.S. Supreme Court Saturday
Mark Waggoner and Jennifer Morgan recently represented a former college president, Dr. Steve Franks, in a First Amendment case before the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Waggoner argued the respondent’s position in Lane v. Franks on April 28, 2014, asking the Court to affirm the Eleventh Circuit’s holding that Dr. Franks did not violate the First Amendment when he terminated petitioner Edward Lane and that, in any event, Dr. Franks was entitled to qualified immunity. A transcript of the hearing is available here. On June 19, 2014 the Court unanimously affirmed the Eleventh Circuit’s ruling that Dr. Franks was entitled to qualified immunity and that the claims against him were properly dismissed. A copy of the opinion is available here.
